Cut Roofs

When choosing between roof trusses or traditional rafters and roof framing, it is important to understand the differences. One advantage of roof trusses is that they can be less expensive as they are manufactured and shipped directly to the construction site for assembly. Once there, they can generally be installed within a day, keeping construction costs down.

Cut roofs with traditional rafters allow more space underneath the roof and can be used to create cathedral ceilings or storage space within the rafters. They can also be altered or manipulated more easily later. If you are considering an attic living space in the future then a cut roof will definitely save you time and money later on.

Slate Roofs

Since our establishment, we have been providing customers across Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall with quality slate roofing work, from complete large construction or roof replacement to minor repairs. Slates can be either natural or cement fibre. We use a huge range of slate types including Spanish, Brazilian, Delabole, Welsh and Chinese natural slates. This ensures we can give our customers the look they want for a price that fits their budget.

We undertake random diminishing slate roofs and our specialists in wet laid scantle slate roofs which involves using a lime mortar mix to bed slates onto a roof which then hang on an oak peg. We also use Cambrian slates which are manufactured from 60% recycled Welsh slates. Slates are fixed to the roof using nails or hooks and used on pitched or vertical elevations. We can source new or reclaimed slates and have carried out many projects in conservation areas where choices of slate have had to be sympathetic to the areas of natural beauty being worked upon.

Tile Roofs

While we all know that every building has a roof and the vast majority are covered with either slate, clay or concrete tiles, nearly all of which are taken for granted, until they leak. Over the last 40 years the tiled roofs have developed to such an extent that the simplicity of its function hides the sophistication of the interaction of each individual component. A roof covering takes the full punishment of our varied weather, be it rain, heat, snow, wind, sun, moss, algae or frost; not forgetting the man made punishment of pollution and environmental changes.

Over time repairs to or the replacement of a roof become necessary and when a problem does occur it can quickly become a major issue, which is why at PlymRoofing we never forget how important your roof is. So regardless of the size of the project, ridge tiles need replacing, a cracked tile or you are embarking on a small or major building project at PlymRoofing we take the time to understand your needs and recommend the most appropriate and cost effective solutions.

PlymRoofing have over the years developed the skills and acquired the knowledge to become experts in the design and installation of roofing felt systems. Conventional bitumen build up roofing membrane have been used effectively for more than 100 years and are still popular today. With the latest flat roofing Systems, the waterproofing membrane is field fabricated with layers of bitumen, alternating with piles of reinforcing felt. The advances in technology of roof felts mean the latest flat roof systems have been known to perform long after their warranty has expired.

Liquid Plastic and GRP

PlymRoofing Liquid Plastic and GRP

The principal benefit of a liquid applied and GRP roofs over traditional flat roof coverings is that there are no joints. We use glass fibre reinforced polymers for flat roofs that chemically fuse to the substrate and cure to form a tough, totally seamless and completely waterproof, flexible membrane that allows for natural structural movement.

For years bitumen based felt was one of the few choices available for flat roofing applications. With today’s advanced technology, it has become possible to create an ideal alternative. Replacement flat roofs are often constructed from maintenance free glass reinforced plastic (GRP), this material is stronger and more durable than any other flat roofing product in today’s market.
